- Trivia Ellen Burstyn won the Best Actress Academy Award for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) while performing in the "Same Time, Next Year" play on Broadway. In the same year, she won the Tony Award for Best Actress for the play. Ironically, Burstyn received both awards at the same time in the same week. Burstyn is one of only two actresses to win both awards in the same year. The other actress was Audrey Hepburn who won a best Actress Tony for "Ondine" in the same year she won an Oscar for Roman Holiday (1953) .
- Goofs The intervals are mostly five years, except after 1966 it skips to 1972, as this marks their 21st anniversary. However, in the 1977 meeting, George brags that he saved Doris and Harry's marriage "six years ago" - in 1971, not 1972, which was the actual meeting in which George pretended to be a counseling priest.
George : When I touched you just now, I started to get excited. What kind of a pervert am I? Staring at a 200-pound pregnant woman and I'm getting hot!
Doris : Well, I'll tell you something. That is about the nicest thing that anybody's said to me in months.

Same Time, Next Year Reviews
Well done filmed play absorbs us in the characters' lives.
Full Review | Jul 6, 2010
It's funny, sad, unexpected and moving. Just like life and its relationships
Full Review | Nov 17, 2007
An overlong, tiresome, excessively theatrical comedy, based on Bernard Slade's play, about a 25 year tryst of a married man and married woman (Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda.

Satisfied neither to be honestly frivolous or sincerely ambitious, Same Time, Next Year winds up giving a bad name both to comedy and to drama.

What worked on the stage doesn't on film.
